Applique - Mirror ! Mirror ! ....on the wall

The wall where I have kept my dresser has been bare for sometime and  I had been wanting to create a perfect match for the dressing area. Since there's no mirror above the dresser, this is the mirror that I came up with.....

scraps that I used in this project
Applique is done on a piece of calico. I chose to incorporate few things that I would usually keep on my dressing table or beside the bathroom mirror .

feel of an antique mirror
bottles of lotion, nail polish, earrings and a hair brush

soap and toothbrush

jewelry box and the chain

..... a soft cotton batting and then some hand quilting

I manged to find matching blues from the pile of remnants for the edges.

Who's the prettiest of all ?

Tote bags

I had some left over material from the one of the wall hangings I did, and I used it to make this small tote bag. I did the same kind of applique as before.

It was not easy to sew to the handles by machine as the material is very thick when folded into two,  I had to hand stitched those. ..ouch! ouuch ! and the rest of the sides are done in machine.

For this bag too I used left over material.  The little shell like circles are cut from an old tee shirt and sewed using the blanket stitch.

The purple one is a friend who is celebrating her birthday at the end of the month.

The Weekend

Another still life painted using IPAD application 'procreate'.

half a pomegranate

Would you like a piece?

A mat for the meditation bench..

These colourful  pieces of brocade were given to me by a Japanese friend of mine. I did not know what type of project I would use them for until  recently; I thought of making mat for my meditation bench. Like most of my crafts this again all hand pieced and sewn. I had some polyester batting which I used for the middle. I would have liked it to have little more width, but I did not have enough material.

blue satin was a find from the thrift store

some black raw silk for the edges

Tea, any one ??

It rained a lot this weekend and I stayed indoors and did a bit of sewing. Tea is a wonderful companion and I had many throughout the day.  These are my tea inspired creations.

Isn't the piece of cake looks yummy !

Ouuuuuch again !

I made these pincushions as a thank you, for a friend of friend who gave me a bag scraps to use in my projects.

Once again here is the link http://www.craftstylish.com/item/945/how-to-make-pretty-pincushions/page/all
The ones in the website are very pretty.

My ones look more like mushrooms. I don't think I followed the tutorial closely enough. Yet, I do like the way they turned out.

Once the pictures are transferred from the IPAD to the desktop, the resolution of the pictures does become a little bit different. I do know the correct term to explain it though.
