bohemian saree quilt..

part 3....

I pieced the blocks by hand; which took awhile to do so. There were days I stayed up very late doing all the stitching because I was so very impatient.

I had enough cotton batting left from the last project so I did pin it to the top layer. Now, all that is left is to make a layer for the backing. I have found few more pieces of saree material which needs to be stitched together. It is coming along..

~ On crochet ~
So far, on my attempt to create this 1970's afghan.

Out of the colours, I chose to crochet the octagonal motif, I ran out two shades of green. (manged 4 octagons)

After making few more incorrect rounds, I think I managed to make these some what similar to the ones in the magazine.

I had to look for another combination greens at the thrift store and, found these two;  hopefully they will blend in with the rest. I think the new greens will last for couple of  motifs, then I have to look for two other shades :)

I like the challenge to create something out of all thrift-ed yarn, and also to try and make it appealing at the same time. It certainly will be different from the original.

Thank you for taking a moment to have a peek,

till my next post,

Crewel wool embroidery...

sharing.....

Another small project with crewel wool.

-----------------------------------------------

 Petal squares... I manged to crochet 10 squares each from the five colours except for blue, which had enough for nine only; even though they are of the same brand and new balls. So, to get an even number I made one with all the colours  Now, all is left is, to put them together and do the border.

Few months ago I attempted this motif but it turned out with many mistakes. I re-read the pattern again and gave it another try. I think this time I manged to get it almost correct.

From the thrift store... needle lace pieces, I do not know whether they are hand made or machine made though.

Thank you for stopping by today..

till next time,

Bits of everything ......

On Crochet ; Recently I bought this  Americana Afghans magazine, published in 1974 from the Salvation Army thrift store. It has both crochet and knitting projects which look wonderful.

This octagonal motif pattern looked rather pretty and I want to give it a try. This is only the first try, and there few errors needs be corrected

Thank you for stopping by to see my crafting,

Octagonal Motif Throw...

Here is the finished one.

It is small n' cute; measures 25x25 inches.
Since, I use thrift store yarn most of the time, and not always that they have labels on them, I tried my best to use ones with similar textures. That way, when the motifs were joined, it would not be too much puckered or uneven.
I am pleased with the result, and if I want to make a bigger one with a similar pattern, now I have the confidence to do so.

It spent sunday morning at the park, for these pictures. :)

Thank you for stopping by for a peek,

Almost the weekend...

Adding stitches to the Saree Quilt.................

Octagonal Motif throw....looking forward to finish it
All yarn are from, the thrift stores in my town....I am impressed with variety of colours, that I was able to find. At first, I wanted to leave (without filling in the spaces) the diamond shapes that were created, after joining the octagons. Then I found the purple grey yarn,  I tried square, it fitted in perfectly, and it blends-in nicely too.

On my recent visit to the thrift store,I bought this bag of yarn for $3. I got it, even though,I did not know what candlewick cotton is/was used for. I thought of doing some crocheting.
A bit of google search led me to this link and many other images. It says the yarn is from 1950s, made in UK. This lot seems to be in very good condition with its original labels(I think);only bit yellowed.

I tried a sample of crocheting and it turned out quite well. I have 12 skeins put in to an idea.

Strutts Candelwick Cotton

The cross stitch kit  is also from the thrift store,was 0.99 cents. I' m looking forward to this project.

Thank you for stopping by .... have a wonderful weekend,

Summer flower....

I have seen many blogs have wonderfully edited and, watermarked pictures. I have been curious;wanted to try myself to see how it worked. My search led me to; www.picmonkey.com an exciting website with numerous options.
I played around a bit to create this collage, while the effect is very appealing, the task of editing pictures for each and every post is bit tedious.  I am not the most tech savvy person!!

This is my newest crochet creation. I am sure you have seen plenty of these types of ornaments around the blogland, I am adding mine to that mix.

Saree quilt is coming along bit by bit ,as well the octagon throw.

It makes me really happy when you stop by,
thank you,

Octagonal motif throw ..(learning left hand crochet)

I am working on my newest crochet project.

I still do not know how large I want to make it yet. I did struggle with the joining the octagons, finally figured this would be the way to do it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the thrift store I found this russian doll for $3. It is about foot long, it did not have rest of the family inside, instead a collection of buttons. I do, however have another family to join it with.
This collection of  Anchor and DMC embroidery floss were $3.
This weekend I also had the opportunity to visit the Art Gallery of Ontario to see the Frances Bacon and Henry Moore exhibit called 'Terror and Beauty'.  It was a wonderful experience; apart from the special exhibition there were huge amount of other art to see.  You need few hours to go through them all.
You stopped by to take a peek !!...... Thank you :)
My blanket of many colours...........
I did, finally complete the blanket of many colours yesterday;
I used all thrift-ed yarn of many textures and sheen, and no.3 hook for the squares and no. 4 hook for the border. The total cost roughly, I would say $20. Among all the other projects, it took me about 7 months to finish.
It was also a warm and a sunny saturday afternoon, to take these photographs at my neighbourhood park.
I am going to give this away as a gift for a sweet friend. I hope she will like it. And, I am thrilled that I manged to finish my first biggest crochet project.
My next crochet project is octagons;
It is nice of you to stop by...........,
thank you,
Crochet lessons continue ... [learning left hand crochet]
Point Stitch...
Learning stitches in a row is still difficult, as I always end up having either extra or less amount of stitches. Counting multiples and then adding the plus number to make the foundation chain still a struggle.
Cross Square
Octagonal Motif [left] and Octagonal shells [right]
Hexagonal motif [left] and Spider's web motif [right]
Lacey Circle [left] and Circular motif [right]
I have completed the all the motifs in the guide book, but there many more stitches that I have to learn.
A very dear friend sent these yarn for me. They are hand dyed merino wool, so soft and I love colours. I am thinking of a scarf but not sure if I want it knitted or crocheted.  So,I will do some practice lessons; hopefully that will help me to decide.
Thank you for taking time to stop by,
