Crewel wool paisley design...

Using some of the remaining colours of the crewel wool that is left, I attempted on stitching this paisley pattern. I had a bit of trouble getting the satin stitch even  and close around the curvy parts.  I think, there is enough wool for me to try at least couple of more designs.


Saree Quilt

Couple of weeks ago while at the thrift store I came across this turquoise blue fabric which I thought would be a nice contrast to the orange and the purple of the autumn quilt.

I have added the border, and tacked it to be sewn ... I am hoping that I would be able to finish it soon.

While going through the craft cupboard, I came across this cross stitch piece that I did almost 20 years ago.I can see the mistakes, specially on the border. (counting squares)

Cross Stitch Angel..

I finally completed the cross stitch kit that I got from the thrift store recently.  The instructions left in there, was only in French; my french lessons are from so long ago, and I cannot remember much of it ( not good). I used the diagram and picture that was included as a guide.

I put it on my easel for these pictures, later I am going to attach a loop so I can hang it.

His and Hers ;Lavender Sachets 

I crocheted these for a colleague of mine who is married in the coming weekend. They are easy to make, but the details are not so neat as I did them in a hurry. I filled them with dried lavender mixed with stuffing.

Almost the weekend...

Adding stitches to the Saree Quilt.................

Octagonal Motif throw....looking forward to finish it
All yarn are from, the thrift stores in my town....I am impressed with variety of colours, that I was able to find. At first, I wanted to leave (without filling in the spaces) the diamond shapes that were created, after joining the octagons. Then I found the purple grey yarn,  I tried square, it fitted in perfectly, and it blends-in nicely too.

On my recent visit to the thrift store,I bought this bag of yarn for $3. I got it, even though,I did not know what candlewick cotton is/was used for. I thought of doing some crocheting.

A bit of google search led me to this link and many other images. It says the yarn is from 1950s, made in UK. This lot seems to be in very good condition with its original labels(I think);only bit yellowed.

I tried a sample of crocheting and it turned out quite well. I have 12 skeins put in to an idea.

The cross stitch kit  is also from the thrift store,was 0.99 cents. I' m looking forward to this project.

 Coaster 

I wanted to make a coaster for my tea cup at the office for the longest time. Finally, this weekend being extra long I sat down made this today. There are plenty of inspirations and ideas on the web, I choose to try this one. I wanted attempt and make something with different textures.

I used cotton yarn and a printed cotton cord. I however did not follow any particular pattern so there isn't any exact number of stitches. I increased stitches when I felt that the circle become tight. As you can see my coaster does look a bit rustic. Well, if  I am to make another one, I now know what adjustment I should make.

Lavender Sachets

These couple are for a friend of mine who is having her birthday next week.  The cross stitch work was done sometime ago was in my craft box, now they are half way to vintage.

Baby blanket is coming along too; I am almost done with two balls of yarn. I am making half double crochet lines using a 2.50 hook . The green a little wider than the variegated one.

And, lastly my blanket of many colours;  at the moment I have 15 large blocks finished.

A cross stitched home...

...for pins and needles
While I was  visiting my mother I had time to complete another small cross stitch kit. I was not quite sure what I wanted to do with it; finally made another case for pins and needles.

I really do not need another one. Maybe I can give it away at some point or take part in a swap if I can get a chance. For, now I will keep with done things.

I, also want to show some of my old cross stitch work;done about 15 or more years ago.

These are some of the practice pieces, now I can see that I did the Y incorrectly on 'may sunshine fill your day'.

some old books including DMC cross stitch book 1962 belonged to an aunt of mine. 

These framed pieces decorate the walls of my old room.

Cross stitch - book of needles..

Up until now my needles never had a proper place to stay; they were either pinned on a piece of cloth, or on cardboard.  I have been promising myself to make something pretty for the needles for the longest time.

I got these tiny cross stitch pattern kits maybe 6-7 years ago from a family friend. I had started one but never completed. I recently stumbled upon them while sorting out the craft box.

This time I had patience to finish it to the end. Then used it in the design for this needle case.

  

I did however make few errors while sewing, because I counted the rows incorrectly.  The instructions included are so small to read, that my eyes were hurting. Why didn't I make an enlarged copy at the beginning ?

  

Finally, my needles have a happy home now.. no more getting mixed up with the pins.
