January creative makes ...

I finished the jute piece.

I have not yet thought about how I want to complete the sides and, if I want to make in to a wall hanging.

Sewing a memory map : inspiration for this piece is from Pinterest. It has so many wonderful ideas.

I stitched a small potion of my childhood village. While sewing the road that leads to home, it brought back so many memories.

I have few more map ideas, now that I want to experiment with.

Thank you for stopping over,

 Block 7

I have completed all the blocks that needed a pattern. Each block will have a different paisley design. Now, all that is left is, to quilt everything together.

*yesterday was rainy and overcast; the pictures did not come out well.

Phone book makeover..

I still carry a phone with me.  It started to fall apart and, I was not sure if I wanted to start a new book all over again. So, this weekend I finally, I did a make-over using fabric and, a small embroidered piece. I happy with my effort.

Learning crewel wool embroidery

Babushka

A small piece practiced with crewel wool. I bought these wool, some from the thrift-store and, the others from, when they have our annual neighbourhood church sales.  I do not have lots of colour selection, but I tried my best to match.

Using acrylic paint, I added details to her face and, some parts of her dress.

Winter Saree quilt..

new year project;

This quilt is going to be made out with purple and, light yellow saree pieces. (winter light does not bring out the proper colours though)

 I am using chain stitch and running stitch. I have done two blocks so far.

I also attempted to do a new stumpwork portrait. I used too much tension around the nose, that it became bit puckered. There is always another try.

Learning Embroidery..

Here is my completed piece..

I am pleased with my effort. I also see the places I could have done better. I was bit short of one of the green floss, and had to substitute with another green (in her dress). I think the difference does not appear to be too prominent.

I am continuing with my embroidery lessons ..there is a new project already planned.

Thank you for stopping by today,

I have made bit more progress in my chain stitch piece.. ..

I usually don't get to do much embroidery after work as it does require fine stitching, and night lighting is hard for my eyes (even with glasses). I mostly do these types of work during day light. So, it has got limited to the weekends.

Crochet

It looks like that my crochet hook does not seem to catch a break.. I thought after the last project I would take break from crocheting, but it was not to happen.  Here's beginning of something new...with all the odds and ends that I have accumulated  since I started to learn crochet; which was just over 2 years ago.

For the past two years I have been buying yarn from the thrift store; often they are either half used, almost used or on a lucky day full. There are also lots of colours which have not made into any projects and I am trying to use them all  too. I am surprised at my collection of left-overs from left-overs :)

continuing...

I had a busy last month at my work, which led to little or no time for creative work. When ever I got few moments to spare I indulged myself in, on the projects which I have started.

small embroidery piece, going at snail speed...

crochet squares....was able add couple more to the lot, still a long way for what I have planned.

spring saree quilt...

applique part is more or less done, now I need to figure out of rest of the pattern in order do the quilting.

Spring Saree Quilt and more...

I need patience to work on this small embroidery project; it has many details to it too. I have been working on it for few weeks now, yet I feel it is at the same place. I am using one strand of cotton embroidery thread and, chain stitch is what I have been working mostly with.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spring Saree Quilt
This is my third saree quilt. I am working on three layers of  saree; they are soft cottons. I have decided not to add a batting for this one.
The applique pattern is cut free hand using pieces of saree material, and I am sewing it with blanket stitch.
On learning left hand crochet...
I found this acrylic yarn at the thrift store just before holidays for $2.  I don't think it is of a good quality as the squares became quite stiff when done. This motif is from the Vogue Dictionary of crochet stitches, page 146. I did struggle a bit with the last row of the motif, and may not have done exactly what the pattern said. The instructions aren't that clear (at least for me). I would have liked if I was able make more flowers but there wasn't enough yarn from all the colours except for pink.
Anyway, it was nice little project to try over the holidays.
