My blanket of many colours...........

I did, finally complete the blanket of many colours yesterday;

I used all thrift-ed yarn of many textures and sheen, and no.3 hook for the squares and no. 4 hook for the border. The total cost roughly, I would say $20. Among all the other projects, it took me about 7 months to finish.

It was also a warm and a sunny saturday afternoon, to take these photographs at my neighbourhood park.

I am going to give this away as a gift for a sweet friend. I hope she will like it. And, I am thrilled that I manged to finish my first biggest crochet project.

My next crochet project is octagons;

Crochet Edgings .... [learning left hand crochet]

Here are few more edgings;  where I was able to understand the pattern.

There were many re-doings and staying up late on a work week. But, finally when the pattern started look more like one in the book I was happy.

This edging was a little messy one to make. I think I managed it alright. Thicker yarn made it much easier to count stitches and see the pattern develop.

You need to make separate fans and then join them. So many ends to sew in and neaten. I think it will be quite a lot of work if you are to make longer one in finer yarn.

A bit of an update on my blanket of many colours...it is almost coming to an end and, I am looking forward to see the final result.

Crochet Edgings.... [learning left hand crochet]

I bought this crochet booklet from the church yard sale last weekend for 25 cents. The booklet is published around 1945 in Canada, and was sold for 15 cents !  It has many edgings one can make to decorate  handkerchiefs, household linen,lingerie etc.

I have been crocheting a little over a year now, and it is first time I tried edgings. I chose a yarn with more thread count than what the books says, so I can count the stitches without difficulty and see the pattern develop. 

I do feel that I have gained some knowledge during the past year,as I was able to read a pattern which was published quite a long time ago; it has no diagrams or any instructions for a left handed person.

I like the chunky look these edgings have, and do believe they will look pretty on the items that the book say with a modern twist.

This weekend being an extra long..... I am working on many of my creative projects.

A baby blanket....

with lacey square border.... (learning left hand crochet)

Here is my completed baby blanket for my friend's grand daughter.. It measures 40 inches x 38 inches. The stitch is half double crochet using 2.5 hook. All the thrift-ed yarn cost me about $7.

I did ran out of the variegated yarn, and had to use something a bit different for the edging. I hope it does not ruin the overall look.

I also made these hair clips for her older sister who is going to pre-school. I hope she will be happy to have these.  I am quite content with my achievement and, all is ready to be sent to all the way to France.

A small  crochted tie for a gift box/wrap.

 Coaster 

I wanted to make a coaster for my tea cup at the office for the longest time. Finally, this weekend being extra long I sat down made this today. There are plenty of inspirations and ideas on the web, I choose to try this one. I wanted attempt and make something with different textures.

I used cotton yarn and a printed cotton cord. I however did not follow any particular pattern so there isn't any exact number of stitches. I increased stitches when I felt that the circle become tight. As you can see my coaster does look a bit rustic. Well, if  I am to make another one, I now know what adjustment I should make.

Lavender Sachets

These couple are for a friend of mine who is having her birthday next week.  The cross stitch work was done sometime ago was in my craft box, now they are half way to vintage.

Baby blanket is coming along too; I am almost done with two balls of yarn. I am making half double crochet lines using a 2.50 hook . The green a little wider than the variegated one.

And, lastly my blanket of many colours;  at the moment I have 15 large blocks finished.
