My blanket of many colours .....[learning left hand crochet]

Part One

While, yarn of various textures,pretty colours and good quality is expensive I don't won't to give up my new found passion; learning to crochet for that reason. Since, I utilise [most of the time] recycled, thrift-ed or given by friends, or friends of friends items in my other creative work, I choose to do the same for crocheting.

These yarn, I got are from the thrift stores for $1-2 each. I would have liked to work with cotton but not much luck so far. What I found was acrylic/worsted, [some had labels]something new to try. And also,a couple more of a softer variety. The ones which had labels are from Sears and Hudson Bay Company, I never knew those companies sold/sell yarn.  I am making solid squares of five rounds;

...... and it is a long way to the end ..............

reminds me of  the song 'My Coat of many colours' ..............  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1zJzr-kWsI

My coat of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made only from rags
But I wore it so proudly
Although we had no money
I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me

  5. Your crochet squares look good - very neat. That's the thing about crocheting blankets - it feels like it's never going to end but when you finally get there it's so satisfying.

  8. I know what you mean about the expense of yarn. I inherited pounds and pounds of yarn from my mom, and I didn't knit very well then. I gave away three garbage bags full of yarn to a friend who was an avid knitter. I've left myself with enough to experiment with, but have been buying some yarn that I like lately and am discouraged from the prices. Your blanket is coming along really nicely, and you're going to love it all the more for the fact that you collected the yarn carefully as you saw it. I like all the embroidered pieces you picked up too ... I love embroidered work and have a shelf in my linen closet packed with little beauties such as these :) Wendy
