Saturday..

I tried a bit more of darning on jute.. a paisley design this time.

Saree quilt  is coming along too..

Crochet Squares... I am not experienced in crocheting,(this my second year of learning) but I feel that the pattern has either a printing error or an editing error. Because when I followed the instructions I could not figure out after the 2nd round.(or may be I am wrong) I had to keep referring to the picture many times, and I did change stitches in couple of places.

Crafts for V.Day....
Jute hearts , used tea bag envelope  and  letters  made out of naturally dyed fabric.

A bit of darning...

My current sewing projects seems never ending, and I much needed a break from them, and this what I did; a small darning piece on jute/gunny sack.

I have done applique before on jute also darning on cotton material, but this is the first time I tried darning on these.

On a recent visit to the thrift store, I also picked up two bags of colourful tapestry wool and I wanted to try  something with them. And, this project seemed ideal for that.

.. there is more room for improvement;

Checker Square; 9 patch blanket

Finally, I finished it.

I am quite happy with the results, considering all the yarn came from thrift stores from my neighbourhood. I collected them for awhile and still do. And, although, they are not from one particular brand, together they all look interesting.

Saree quilt is coming along bit by by.....

on learning left hand crochet.. I am trying out a new motif from the this booklet. I still do not know what I will be doing with them, but learning is always fun.

Thank you for your visit..........

Spring Saree Quilt and more...

I need patience to work on this small embroidery project; it has many details to it too. I have been working on it for few weeks now, yet I feel it is at the same place. I am using one strand of cotton embroidery thread and, chain stitch is what I have been working mostly with.

Spring Saree Quilt

This is my third saree quilt. I am working on three layers of  saree; they are soft cottons. I have decided not to add a batting for this one.

The applique pattern is cut free hand using pieces of saree material, and I am sewing it with blanket stitch.

On learning left hand crochet...

I found this acrylic yarn at the thrift store just before holidays for $2.  I don't think it is of a good quality as the squares became quite stiff when done. This motif is from the Vogue Dictionary of crochet stitches, page 146. I did struggle a bit with the last row of the motif, and may not have done exactly what the pattern said. The instructions aren't that clear (at least for me). I would have liked if I was able make more flowers but there wasn't enough yarn from all the colours except for pink.

Anyway, it was nice little project to try over the holidays.

Baby blanket in shades of lavender....

I finished the baby blanket, and it is all ready to be sent off to the baby. I did however, ran out the first colour I started with and could not find the same, so I had to go with something of a similar variety. Also, when I started the blanket I did not know the gender of the baby so I chose this colour, a couple of weeks later I got the news to say it is a girl, then I added a border in pink,(for a girl).I already had the tiny blue crocheted flowers.  I hope baby will be comfortable in it :)

The stitch I used is  from Vogue Dictionary of Crochet Stitches..page 23.
*if you like to read the pattern click on the image and it should make it larger

A bit of progress in the checker square blanket which  I think, started couple of months ago. I am waiting for the days off from work, to work on all the arts n' crafts that I have planned.

A very BIG thank you to all the friends who stopped by this year !!!
Happy holidays and best wishes 2015 !!

Shades of yellow...

snowflakes and christmas trees...

Since, I got the embroidery book I was looking forward start on a project. The two new stitches I learnt, I was easy ones; backstitched chain stitch and  fern stitch. I still need more practice to get even stitches and also must get use to working with the hoop.

Later,I incorporated the piece and made runner for my night table. I used  much as possible yellows I possibly could find from my bag of remnants. Also, added a lamp with some lace. All is hand sewed.

The snowflakes are gift for a friend. The pattern....is from this blog.

Christmas tree pattern is from here; Crochet Geek. The pattern is both in video (left and right hand)and as well as has written instructions. The completed tree is about 2 inches in height. As for the decorative items, I sewed in what ever the little things I had in my craft box.

Finished saree quilt...

It is finally done, nearly after 9 months. This weekend being bit gloomy and all, I took it over to the park to for the photographs, hoping little more light.

This quilt measures approx. 80 inches x 58 inches.  All is done by hand, except for joining the blocks initially, for which I used the machine.

This is the second quilt I made using cut-off saree pieces, you can see the first one here. What a difference between the colour schemes of the two.  For this quilt I use synthetic batting instead of cotton, so it is much lighter than first one. There is more saree remnants to start the third one :)
