bohemian saree quilt..

part 3....

I pieced the blocks by hand; which took awhile to do so. There were days I stayed up very late doing all the stitching because I was so very impatient.

I had enough cotton batting left from the last project so I did pin it to the top layer. Now, all that is left is to make a layer for the backing. I have found few more pieces of saree material which needs to be stitched together. It is coming along..

~ On crochet ~
So far, on my attempt to create this 1970's afghan.

Out of the colours, I chose to crochet the octagonal motif, I ran out two shades of green. (manged 4 octagons)

After making few more incorrect rounds, I think I managed to make these some what similar to the ones in the magazine.

I had to look for another combination greens at the thrift store and, found these two;  hopefully they will blend in with the rest. I think the new greens will last for couple of  motifs, then I have to look for two other shades :)

I like the challenge to create something out of all thrift-ed yarn, and also to try and make it appealing at the same time. It certainly will be different from the original.

Beginning of another year...

Over the holidays I did quite a bit of sewing. I have manged to add these elephants, peacocks,,and paisley blocks to the bohemian quilt that is in the making.

I love the colours of this peacock..

I incorporated the embroidered motifs on the background fabric to the paisley design, I think it blends in well.

..... some pencil drawings I had in my sketch pad..

A very happy new year to all my friends....

Thank you for taking time to stop by today..

Elephants, peacocks ...and paisley

a bohemian  saree quilt

Back ground cotton material (both colours) has some machine embroidered patterns and, I thought of incorporating them as well to the patterns I have in mind.

The applique designs  do not have any templates, I draw them free hand on each block, or on the material and as I sew. They will look different from one another, which is what I have in mind. I am using cotton (mostly) for applique; I have cut up couple scarves that I no longer use among other scarps.

This project will keep me busy during the holiday break ....

Happy holidays my friends !

Here's wishing  a white Christmas ........

Petal square crochet throw....

After joining all the squares, I made a border; couple of rows of hdc with a darker shade of purple I had.

Using my edging book, I tried out an easy edging which could be added to an already crocheted item.   These edgings are done separately for lingerie, pillow cases, bath linen etc., Luckily with the pattern I chose, I manged to crocheted all around the border with out having to leave extra stitches.

I got the book from a yard sale. It says copyright  1945 printed in Canada for The Canadian Spool Cotton Co, and price is marked as fifteen cents. It has so many beautiful trimmings and edgings.

I am glad you came by.,

Autumn Saree Quilt...

After about three months of stitching, finally completed the saree quilt.

I am pleased with the colour choices and the layout. And, I think the overall appearance is alright.

I did run out  (about two inches )of the blue border material, and used the purple checked one, to the ends of two sides.

I used the machine only to join the large pieces, everything else is done by hand.

Thank you for passing by to see my work,

Crewel wool embroidery...

sharing.....

Another small project with crewel wool.

-----------------------------------------------

Petal squares... I manged to crochet 10 squares each from the five colours except for blue, which had enough for nine only; even though they are of the same brand and new balls. So, to get an even number I made one with all the colours  Now, all is left is, to put them together and do the border.

Few months ago I attempted this motif but it turned out with many mistakes. I re-read the pattern again and gave it another try. I think this time I manged to get it almost correct.

From the thrift store... needle lace pieces, I do not know whether they are hand made or machine made though.

Crewel wool pomegranate...

I spent most of today sewing  with crewel wool..

This is my attempt on a pomegranate design. I did few sketches and choose this one.  I tried long and short satin stitch first  but I could not get it properly, so I opted to make satin stitch in small blocks. I don't know if it suits the pattern.

On crochet
Petal squares are coming along.

I stacked them on chopsticks so that it will help to keep the shape.
